This happens with the Meningitis shots as well. In that case they target specific strains, which they generally prevent, but the chance of catching other strains goes up by so much that you're statistically better off mot getting it.
I wonder if it's a flaw in the very principal of vaccination; maybe exposing people to strains of viruses "locks in" the immune system, causing it to ignore similar strains? Or the bodies resources for identifying threats are depleted?
Not sure, but this phemonenon seems to crop up with pretty much every jab I look into, which means the medical community must be well aware.
