I am guessing you know this, but the "Magic(al) Negro" is a long-standing storyline/trope in the USA for a reason I don't understand exactly. "Bagger Vance" is perhaps the classic example, but almost any Will Smith movie for about two or three decades there were all variations on the Magic Negro theme.
Barack Obama is another variation on the same theme.
