At the same time, the idea of consciousness and self-determination present in all animals does suggest a spectrum of organization, but doesn't explain finely-tuned gaps in the spectrum.

The thing is I don't have real books on reptilians, only on primates; it hadn't been on my radar much before, nor on that of the authors I mostly came across in the market.
