For the sake of order and understanding all previous posts regarding moderation will be listed below. It would be nice to have all ongoing discussion in this one central post that I'm speaking in right now. I will chime everyone that has expressed actual interest in actual discussion.
The goal is to have community consensus to the best ability regarding a new mod to be active, I have reached out in modmail and PM'd Clem so they are aware if they are in fact currently around.
I'm requesting to be mod and am open to questions in that regard. For those that don't know me, I've been here since this community was created via an invite from the original mod, Axolotl Peyotl and have been active the last 5 years. I would hope my reputation has shown it's own proof that I care for this community and members, if not, I am willing to provide assurances to any concerns.

Things have slowed down but I have hope for rejuvenation and I also agree that it's uncool that that post got to the main page while our discussions aren't available for view.
Just to say it here and copy it elsewhere, it occurs to me that if we removed the political tag and then flagged the very few political posts with a different exclusion like NSFW then we'd get the best of all: appearance in Trending, plus minimal admin involvement, plus minimal specification on what "political" is (until people argue). Strange workaround but people might like those benefits.

Obviously “no politics in trending” is a line of horseshit.
So, it seems likely the admins won't care if we remove the political flag from the board and don't bother flagging individual posts.
Still waiting on clarification, but assuming that when u/Paleo said:

Good idea. Yet "we" don't have the power to remove the flag, nor to approve Conspiracies for Trending, which requires that admin be motivated in favor of this idea. And if we didn't flag individual posts, admin has repeated declared motivation against the idea.
To recapitulate, we could easily declare consensus that we need 2 or 3 mods, that we would like admin's consent to mod them after we deliberate about who they are, that the mods will remove the Politics general flag so admin can add us to Trending, and that the mods will mark the few political posts as "NSFW" with a sidebar explanation that this means "Not Safe For World" which we have redefined as meaning they are political. Anything short of that doesn't seem to meet the goal you suggest (of the admins letting us be).
^ u/Paleo, here is some good research about the regular appearance of Politics in Trending. In particular, I understand that Funny should have no reason to be in Trending, so it's not just a one-off. Looking forward to your thoughts in good time. It appears then that my proposal about how to get Conspiracies in Trending might be right on point:

Research lol? Cmon man, I opened the page we’ve been talking about for 2 days and LOOKED - this isn’t rocket surgery, despite how you and the admins might want the situation portrayed, for whatever inscrutable reasons.
I can agree to 'not safe for the world', this planet is crazy.
Thank you for thinking this out, I've been wondering myself how to go about it. At first think through it seems that might work, and mod duties would have to stay on top of flairs and I'm sure a modicum of appropriate speech would be expected/moderated.
