a deal with them

One (singular) wields free will of choice...another suggests them (plural) to trick one to sell self out to a chosen ones suggestion. After the deal...a chosen one gained the power choose in the name of "them" aka a singular (sovereign) wielding a plurality (commonwealth).

The deal means

a) Another suggests meaning to tempts ones choice to take the deal.

b) Deal implies division (de) of all (al)...taking (synthesis) ignores dividing (analysis).
