This wouldn't even qualify as a conspiracy if there weren't so many smooth brains. Of-fucking-course the government will try it's hardest to limit anything that would undermine its power. Tariffs are the quintessential example: protect the government's economy and fuck everything else. There will never be a breakthrough energy revolution because that would destabilize the distribution of global power.
