You almost nevsr get ugly characters in anime and, when you do, it's usually because of Western influence, like Miyazaki or One Piece.
This hiding of imperfections and changing who you are just by swapping hair and clothes fits perfectly with tranny wish fulfillment. If they were in a Western cartoon, the first thing you'd notice would be the huge adam's apple and 5 o'clock shadow, but in anime necks are smooth and you are either cleanshaven or have a full beard.
