And sometimes they are invited. I would highly advise that people stay away from all drugs as much as possible. I've also wondered if they are invited in before someone gets addicted to drugs. I believe it could work both ways

Yes even alcohol was traditionally called "spirits."

If you had a friend get drunk and he was not being himself he may have invited or lured spirits by drinking spirits. And they aren't always good spirits.
