Google started changing their spell checking dictionary around that time. They started removing words. Words that I've been using my entire life suddenly started showing up with red underlines.
I thought my spelling was getting worse. Then I would highlight, right click, search on Google, and yep.. sure enough.. I spelled it correctly and it still is a word. Then I go back, right click again, then add it back to the dictionary.
I've had to do this hundreds of times over the past 2 years. This is intentional. They're using their tools and their analytics on how people use them to intentionally dumb down the population.

Huh. You’ve just explained a key source of frustration for me. I’m dyslexic so take a lot of care to always check my spelling.
I’ve encountered the same thing where it tells me a word is wrong, but I’m sure it’s not. It’s very disconcerting.
