to essentially wage war against us.

a) Essence implies each being...suggested pluralism (us) tempts consenting beings into conflicts of reason against each other aka wars.

Sin aka syn (together with)... https://www.etymonline.com/word/syn- which is why sin/syn (together) destroys life essence (apart) if waged upon.
