This translation is not inaccurate to describe spiritual forces as "powers in space driven from course"; it's those forces that have declared domains over stars and satellites and refused to yield them to the Creator. The rooting out of evil needs to go all the way up. They are alien to us, but it's not often recognized that most "alien" technology is spiritual in nature.
The whole of Matthew 24-25 is given for future reference (i.e. for us today). God will restore to the universe certain features of light that will cause meaningful symbols to be visible to all men in the night sky (like evidence suggesting they once were); this will include the sign of the Son of Man. Why are you recommending GNT?? Nasb 1977 or 1995 for the win.
