a) Israel/yisra'el - "he that striveth with God", hence to spit/spite/contempt - "open disregard or disobedience".
b) If nature is balance based, then gentile ignorance attracts jewish insolence/insults.
Because they are taught that it is okay to do such. If they were taught it was wrong, this conversation would not exist.
