failure of human civilization

To civilize implies domesticating that which nature sets free. What you described implies the success of civilization, hence few domesticating many.

complete failure

Impossible, since fall (inception towards death) generates rise (life). Few tempting many to believe in complete/complere - "to fill together" implies each ones domesticated mind seeking completion aka tikkun olam (repairing the world by putting together).
