You could patent anything you want. No patent office in the world demand the thing described in patent application to be real. Only things that matters for patent - there is no patent on the described thing yet, properly done paperwork and paid fee. That's all.

Patent does not mean the thing would work as described or possible at all. It just mean that nobody filed patent with such thing earlier.
