Assad did not spend resources fighting the Jihadists, instead he focused on fighting the more moderate factions, so if he was taken out, we were left with only bad options: this being one of them. Probably going to be a couple of more years of turmoil in Syria, before someone is able to concentrate power to themselves. Currently leaders might come, leaders might go.
