his teaching that the world agrees on basic moral laws like rejecting murder and adultery and animal abuse.

Maybe you should actually try reading what he said:

"Love the Lord your God with all your might, heart, mind, and spirit, and love your neighbor as you love yourself. On these all the commandments depend." Matt 22:37
