I don't think I've seen anything quite like this but maybe I live under a rock.
I have seen people turn freaky Bilbo over this stuff and I think it sucks.
Has it always been this way and I just see it differently now or is there a bigger pushing than we've all seen before?

There was a strong push for Christians to get involved back in the 90s. During this time there was considerable opposition to gay marriage and return to family values; however, the movement fizzled out, crumbled and ever since there has been weak Christian unity.
I assume your question is in relation to the weak unity put for by Christians. I'm would also wager christian voting/unity was even stronger back in the 50s/60s.
Unfortunately the movement was also heavily in support of Israel, end times and the Jew returning to their "homeland" aka stolen land that they have no legitimate claim to.
