Because it is a showcase of power and a humiliation ritual for you.
It is humilation of you being unable to do anything and yet being outraged about it (they are laughing at you non stop) and them showcasing their power as they are untouchable.

That doesn't even make sense. Romans destroyed their temple and scattered the Jews after they killed Jesus.
