Mmm. There's another image out there with one of the SS guys wiping his face with a white cloth as he was stood up and you can see the smear on his cheek where it has been wiped. I think the cloth (might have been a linen hanky, which hopefully the SS guy hadn't blown his nose on previously) that image was actually shown on TV.
Trump does tend to exaggerate a little a times though. :-) Or it might have seemed there was more blood to him when it happened especially if it went inside his ear. As for no ear shot from the people with phones, this is the Instagram generation, they were probably not paying attention and scrolling social media most of the time rather than listening to him. Many have said the shots sounded like fireworks so maybe they just didn't know what was happening at first.

You can the bottom of the two streaks of blood had been wiped but the most significant middle streak had vanished entirely. No smears, no streaks. Just two different photos - the one showing the three streaks obviously having been stage managed and taken at a different time.
You can see that there was ZERO blood when Trump took his hand away from his ear before hitting the deck. Also, there was no blood on his hand when he raised his fist either.
As for saying that no one in the back was taking photos due to being an 'instagram generation', well, firstly the average age of people in that back row shows that they are clearly not the 'instagram generation' and also you would have to account for the huge discrepancy between those back-rowers and the rest of the crowd. The rest of the crowd were able to film the moment and take photos - what's so special and different about the back row.
