The typical connection between Satan and the Vatican looks a little something like this:
"something Biblical about Satan" --> ... --> "something modern about the Vatican"
There are very few people actually trying to fill in that "...", so you end up either rejecting the claim for lack of evidence, or taking it almost entirely on faith. And there's nothing to build on or investigate further.
One person trying to expand the "..." is anthropologist Robert Sepehr. A good example of his work is this presentation with evidence of Mithraism back in the time of Constantine:
