I think all these scientist's seen something, and at that time they thought the technology would be used to benefit everyone, but thats not how it turned out.
I think its why these companys profiting off this technology will do anything to keep the truth from coming out.
It could also be that they feared it would never leave the military and this was their way of spreading the message to make it more public consciousness
