However, it is indeed peculiar that Russia and USA are both having nationwide emergency alert drills within 24 hours of each other. There's some sort of coordination going on.

I didn't realise the USA was conducting drills, next week. They're limited and could be a response to aliens for all I care.
It's been a much much longer time. I thought the USA took the European attitude today. It wouldn't even tell its regular citizens until they've hit. Because any flight time is what all of 10 minutes today. It was like 20 mins in the like 90s. They won't even get down the escalator. So many of those fallout shelters have been decommissioned, apart from any co-ordinated GOV, they are a need to know.
Of course they make up all these dumber scenarios and what ifs, but when it comes down to it, there is no planning until they hit.
