Again, doesn't require lasers from space.
Air Force Maui Optical and Supercomputing Site (AMOS) running the Directed Energy Beam Improvement Program on Maui has build a DEW, they openly admit it on the net
US has plane based low-altitude capable DEW airplane : https://wiki2.org/en/Boeing_YAL-1
So has Russia (A-60): https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%90-60
Both can be fitted with MASERs. Research on both has been going on since 60s: https://archive.ph/1JpxP
Using MASERs from airplane(s) would require an optimal, dry (very low moisture) condition, ideally with strong winds. This was present.
Targeting precision would require LIDAR and/or targeting satellites. Both again easily within capability of US/RUS/CH govs.
Alternative is particle beam based weapons that Pentagon has been itching to test by 2023:

Does it mean it's automatically DEW?
Of course not.
Would it be easier to be done with controlled arson (human operators) or even with drones? Yes. But the burn would be more uncontrollable as opposed to something that pinpoints the heat to where it is wanted. Also, starting multiple fires at multiple points with multiple operators would expose the whole operation much more likely.
I haven't seen any videos (yet) of people claiming that certain plots/houses/cars/places were doused with flammable liquids and fires started by people. Yes, on Greek islands, but not on Lahaina.
Regardless of what was the method of starting it, it smells (due to media/drone/help restrictions and burn pattern oddities) like a deliberate attempt.
Hell, if I had a newly build and untested DEW on Maui myself I'd certainly want to test it on something. What's easier than testing it in your own backyard and as a bonus get some land grab for your rich buddies.
Keep your eyes open, don't believe / disbelieve anything automatically unless you have proof to back it up.
I watched a YouTube video about chemical lasers that burn things and the guy made it at home for his video so the next step is to just duct tape it to a Walmart drone and test it out.
