Monochrome lights (retina cones) do not ruin your night vision (retina rods).
But blue is high energy/intensity. That's why pilots who fly during night time will use a red light to illuminate the cockpit and not blue.
For the same reason, blue also doesn't save on power either.
The only reason I can think of for not using red is that it would look kinda eerie but this also does.
During night time endurance races cars often have blue lights inside the cars for drivers to see knobs and switches while still being able to see the track ahead of them.
