In the 70s, there was a statement released by some official office, that the best thing to do during an atomic attack is to dig a 6-ft hole (your grave), put a household wooden door over the hole, and (my favorite part), throw a foot or two of dirt over it.

Leaving the reader to figure out how that all works.

"It's the dirt that does the trick." was the actual kicker statement at the end, disappointing all those Doors fans.
