We had soldiers guarding poppy production for 19 years it’s not a secret you can find film of them patrolling the crops, talking about it in interviews.
Our excuse was it was needed to help the farmers support themselves and grow trust in the community because the taliban was burning poppy fields.
Now that we have left Afghanistan the taliban has resumed their ban on poppy production.

Almost 90% of worldwide heroin came from Afghanistan during our occupation. We facilitated planted and protected astronomically more than got burned.

Mostly I just hadn't said much today.
I guess pointing out that guarding of as well as burning of product can both be forms of business. As in, just because they destroy field A doesn't mean they aren't selling field B.
