I dont think there is any reasoning for it. Love has never made sense.

Its not just a human thing either, seems to happen across all species. Maybe some leftover evolutionary baggage?

I find it fascinating that some species are actually capable of changing their sex. This happens with fish when there is not enough females/males.

Or chemicals that so closely mimic hormones in the body that they can cause, say frogs, to spontaneously switch genders O_O
