I think that while Russia is fighting Ukraine, it's also fighting it's own Deep State. It's rarely mentioned, and Prigozhin is most outspoken but even he doesn't point fingers and name names. But why would anyone think there wouldn't be a Russian Deep State, just as strong or stronger than those throughout the West? In addition to whatever scum existed in the USSR, the Neo-Imperialist looters had the whole decade of the 90's to splash around money making new "friends" of the West.
What I believe is going on now is that, in the West's desperation, those moles are breaking cover to interdict munition supplies, among other things. As regrettable as it may be given the fatal consequences, allowing them to act overtly may be necessary in order to locate and root out these traitors.
So we know soldiers will always die in every battle, and I think that this example is different only in the more elaborate mechanism and the identity of the more dangerous enemy. In the words of Marcus Tullius Cicero over two millenia ago:
A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.

interesting interpretation... some logical thinking over here..
So will that be the narrative once Russia admits that they cannot win?
"We could have won but the Deep State stabbed us in the back".
