My theory is that the west did this against the wishes of Zelenksy. Putin has previously said that he wasn’t targeting Zelenksy for assassination.
This might change now. Which is exactly why the Ukrainians are claiming they are not responsible. Imo it’s very clear that Zelenksy did not order this.
I don’t think the west is happy with how the conflict is going and put this in motion to put Zelenksy on the hot seat. Perhaps they teamed up with someone in the ukr military to do this… or it could have been a strategic partner. Hard to say.
But If Seymour Hersh’s recent reporting is correct… then Zelenksy has been buying gas from Russia, skimming off those flows, and completely undermining the sanctions regime against Russia.
He’s doing this as he makes poor decisions. He should have strategically retreated from Bakmhut at least 2 months ago. Now the chances of a counteroffensive succeeding are very slim.
Now the west wants to push him out, so they bait Putin, or potentially even will make the move themself and have everyone frame Putin.
But that’s just a theory. I’m curious who you guys think is behind this assassination attempt.
And the conflict has steadily escalated?
What’s your point?
Are you saying that an assassination attempt isn’t escalation? Or won’t lead to escalation?
If so, you have a poor understanding of game theory, imo.
Not really. In the beginning, Russia tried taking Kyiv, miserably failed, took some territory but lost large parts of it, and the whole thing has pretty much stalled for a while.
Keep up with the news.
Did you watch the video of the drone? It was a small civilian drone with some incendiary device strapped to it. How is that an "assassination attempt"? Do you think that could have killed Putin? Was he on the roof at the time?
Besides, Russia has been trying to kill Zelensky since day one.
Zelenksy has been buying Russian diesel and making Putin rich lol. He’s been making terrible strategic decisions that have put Putin in an advantageous position.
You don’t know what your talking about.
The Russians didn’t even start out targeting infrastructure.
Then they started hitting energy and water infrastructure. Also known as… escalation.
Ukraine didn’t use chemical weapons at the start of the conflict. But then they escalated and started doing this with drones. Also known, as escalation.
The number troops committed to the conflict have grown steadily throughout. Also known… as fucking escalation.
Towns and cities that used to exist are getting erased from the map. That’s escalation…
Now you have assasination attempts on Putin. Effective or not… that’s clearly escalation and will lead to more nonsense.
