Complex numbers, consisting from imaginary and real path really are perfectly handy for calculating f.e. AC curcuits and some other things. I think your theacher was not bothered with explaining practical application of that thing, and that's all. It is very simple concept when it comes with example of real word application and represented in cartesian, polar and Euler forms.

Appreciate your answer! its far easier to understand than what i got for other equations in school. i would always ask how does this apply or how can it be used in the world , By the time i got to Imaginary numbers I stopped asking.
