There is a dedicated community on this website for Flat Earth [FE] stuff:
https://scored.co/c/flatearthresearch/new
There is no need for FE here on conspiracies IMO. If people want to explore FE they can easily seek it there or elsewhere on the internet.
My position: FE doesn't belong here. I believe the proponents of FE are ruining any chance this forum has to gain a larger following. They are time wasters and trolls who reject logical and reasonable rebuttable of their assertions. If someone disproves their idea they say it's lies and fakery without justification or evidence. If it's tiresome for me it must be annoying for others too, and perhaps it is dissuading lurkers from taking the leap and interacting here. No one should have to spend time wading through FE madness if they didn't seek it out.
My position wont change through argument. That's not what this post is about. I want to know:
Do individual, regular users on Conspiracies support banning FE posts and "discussion" from this forum?
If this motion of mine passes, the FE users would be allowed to stay, but submissions they make claiming the Earth is flat would be removed and result in a 3 day ban.
Comments arguing for FE would be removed too, if they are reported or I see them.
A note on the side bar would be added, making it clear that FE is banned here, and a link to the scored/communities FE community provided.
I think that's fair.
Since voting is easily manipulated, the way we'll decide is this:
Reply below, a top level comment, with either a YAY or NAY
YAY= I want FE banned
NAY= I want FE allowed
1 vote per user
Caveats:
-
Any top level comment without a clear YAY or NAY at the beginning of the comment will be removed.
-
YAYS or NAYS as a reply to a top level comment will not count and will be removed.
-
Provide justification, opinions or suggestions about all this along with your vote, if you like, but place it on a separate line below your YAY or NAY.
-
Replying to users is fine too, as long as you yourself have also made a top level comment with a yay or nay.
-
If a top level comment is edited, the edit history will be checked and the comment may not count or may be removed.
-
We have about 100 regular users/contributors, my estimate, so I hope everyone replies with a YAY or NAY. We'll give it plenty of time to ensure everyone sees this post.
-
Upvotes or Downvotes on comments or on this post will be completely ignored
We're counting YAYs or NAYs from individual users only.
-
Top level comments without a clear YAY or NAY will be removed.
-
Duplicate YAYs or NAYS will be removed.
-
Handshake account YAYs or NAYs are welcome, but they will be scrutinized and possibly ignored if they seem like sock-puppets, regardless of how they are voting. This is to ensure the minimum of vote manipulation.
-
Older accounts with little to no history - or where their last comment was several months or years ago - will also be scrutinized and may not count.
I reserve the right to edit this post based on interactions and suggestions below. I may not have thought of everything. Edits will be labelled and placed at the end of this text.
EDIT
Vote over
Minus sock-puppet accounts it's 61 Nay, 44 Yay.
Most of the nays are casual, non-contributing users banging on about censorship and free speech who don't give a damn about quality content nor FE. I encourage those users to engage with FE instead of ignoring it. If you did that you would probably come to regret voting to allow it in this forum.
The believers are not correct in any way. There is nothing to it but ignorance and malicious intent. But if you want to investigate it and share your "research" (lmao), there is a dedicated community for that. There are many in fact.
I respectfully disagree. Perhaps there was one or two members here with bad intentions.
Also, flat earthers, despite failing to prove to me that earth is flat, have successfully convinced me NASA is a fucking scam and half what NASA does is fake as fuck, like that DART mission blowing up an asteroid.
Also, stuff like this is related to flat earth and i thought this was a great compilation of space being fake. https://communities.win/c/Conspiracies/p/16a9qQAMme/bloopers-in-space/c
Some flat earther pissed you off. Don't punish all of them.
And I’ve always thought you were a suspect account, vlad.
Seriously, though.
The entire theory that the atmosphere just stays attached to planet because of gravity and the entire vacuum of space doesn't disperse all those air particles is strange. It makes the globe theory seem kind of bogus.
Also, we orbit the sun and the moon orbits us but we only ever see one side of the moon? That doesn't seem kind of bogus to you? Bunch of spinning balls orbiting around each other but you only see one side of the moon/globe?
Also, the navigation coordinates not working as well in southern hemisphere? maybe true maybe not. Worth investigating more.
Also, all the conditions for life are just too precise and in perfect range. The perfect temperature and air composition and forces at play. The entire big bang theory sounds like magical explosion bullshit to me. Intelligent Design and Creation is more plausible considering accounts of people's after life experiences when they flatlined and came back.
Also, there's so much evidence that moon landing is faked, space satellites and ISS faked, videos of them supposedly in space faked, man how much of a stretch is it to question the models of space and the galaxy?
The easiest proof against the flat earth theory is that you can fly from western hemisphere to eastern hemisphere going either direction, east or west, indicating a globe or circle back again. from cali to hong kong going west or from new york to hong kong going east. How does that work with ice barrier wall in the way?
Also the sunrise and sunset. I don't see sun moving to distance and fading away. It sets on the horizon. It appears at the horizon. It didn't just appear from distance or fade into distance like an airplane.
I'm also not convinced of the firmament or dome. Evidence they present is really sketchy and not convincing. Supposed rockets skipping off firmament or the firmament being water? It's interesting but i'm not convinced yet.
It's actually good to question all this stuff though. You know my children pop quiz me with questions all the time? I don't always have the answers but I like their inquisitive and innocent childish bewilderment toward the world they are newer to.
Just hoping to share some info:
It’s not (solely) “because of gravity”. There are a lot of factors at play such as viscosity, density, friction, etc. Please check this out for an overview:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boundary_layer
And more specifically:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_boundary_layer
Strange, certainly but the standard explanation (relative co-relational rotation) fits, and this doesn’t really have any bearing on the shape of the earth. (Lunar) Tides wouldn’t work on a flat however.
Not a thing afaik. This would be common knowledge.
Very interesting subject highly worthy of discussion:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fine-tuned_universe
But in no way relavent to the FE discussion
True
A massive one until you can present any kind of evidence or cohesive explanation
I agree, the issue is the people who a)present it as fact and b) always try to shoehorn FE into every discussion - that is literally forum sliding , whether intentional (conscious) or not
Watch out for predators. Many have developed agressive mimicry:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggressive_mimicry
Shill confirmed. Thanks.
FE are very vocal about NASA fakery because it's their most successful grooming technique. There exists perfectly rational, plausible and likely, non-FE explanations for every NASA fake there is. But it's not all the same 1 FE reason. In reality if there is one over-arching true reason for all their fakes it's to keep the massive amounts of funding pouring in. NASA has been like that from the start, when they were given a ridiculous amount of money to perform a mission they already knew was impossible - well, impossible in the way they had been planning.
FE grooming. The dumbest drop on the internet today.
That's exactly what it is. Pretty proud of it actually. You're probably jealous you didn't come up with it.
No. Punish them all.
The useful idiots get to go down with the ship, but they shouldn’t bring the rest of the crew with them.
But that’s your opinion and not theirs.
You have reached a conclusion based upon your own research and personal biases/beliefs. Others have reached different conclusions.
Personally I feel both sides present good and bad arguments
The point of this forum is to discuss and review topics in the conspiracy realm and not ban topics you personally don’t agree with.
What I’m seeing now is one of the few forum mods using ”reasearch” (lmao)” to dismiss something they don’t like.
That’s a little concerning, and a little “Reddit” don’t you think?
Imagine if this board became an extension of the Q psyop - flat earth is similar in the sense that it isn’t “just another conspiracy” where people debate facts back and forth, it’s instead more like a religion (just like Q worship). You can spend hours explaining the semi-complex information required to explain whatever phenomena is mystifying them in that post - but like jelly they slip through the fingers of your rational argument, and just shift the goalposts to some other phenomena they’re baffled by, which again requires multiple hours of in depth explanation. Usually, only to revert to their original stances the next morning, as if they didn’t have the first memory about the previous days conversation.
In 95% of cases it’s not argued in good faith, even if the person arguing it isn’t literally a bot or shill
atheism is the pedo fed psy op religion
I think you have nailed something square on the head.
What I think it worth looking at is the unusual and aggressive support FE gets from some people, and also the unusual and aggressive push-back.
Look at some of the discussion in just this thread. It’s a train wreck.
There is definitely some fuckery going on with FE, and I’m not sure what it is. What I’m sure of, is that it gets people really pissed off for some reason, and that’s what piques my interest.
I think there really is something to the notion... here’s a post I made a while back, you might be interested in (funnily enough, I didn’t even connect it to FE at the time, but it really is applicable):
https://communities.win/c/ConsumeProduct/p/12jJs7bEsb/canon-lore-the-great-awakening-a/c
I left out a key part of this discussion, the link to the so called “Great Awakening”, which combines all of these aspects into one:
Modern ideologies (such as marxism, libertarianism, MAGAism, etc) have, in reference to the massive success of religious ideologies and their framework, constructed themselves as if they are religions.
What do I mean by this?
An all encompassing nature - religion is so sturdy because it attempts to provide a framework for every interaction between you and the rest of the world. Every person you meet, every word you hear from someone else, every thing you experience, you filter through your “belief framework”. In the past, this was basically limited to morality judgements “is this thing righteous or not?”
So even if your religious book(s) didn’t explicitly mention the scenario you find yourself in, religions offer enough “structure” such that any experience you undergo can be fed to this structure and an answer can be produced.
Modern political ideology has come to understand this, and has constructed itself such that now your political ideology can supplant your religious ideology, as your political ideology now can encompass your religious ideology and all the structure and function it provides (atleast, the political ideologies attempt this, I don’t think they’ve yet succeeded, which imo is why people who solely exercise a political ideology seem so schitzophrenic and unanchored in their beliefs/opinions).
These people are no different than “super fans” who go to “cons” to “LARP”, except the Harry Potter nerds have some slight degree of plausible deniability.
c/FlatEarthResearch
How does that not meet your needs?
It's got nothing to do with my needs. It has to do with censoring ideas which one disagrees with. It's literally why this forum exists.
If we start banning topics and forcing users into alternate subs like c/FlatEarthResearch , it starts to stink like Reddit and r/TheDonald. Once all the contaminating opinions and users are safely confined to their special place on the site...wham-bam close the sub and ban the users. They did it with r/TD and r/FatPeopleHate to start with, and now any voice that doesn't parrot Stalinism is suddenly gone from Reddit.
I've used Reddit since the Digg migration, and I've used .win since Axolotl started this forum. If we start banning topics mods don't like then I think it's time the actual users who contribute content move on and find something better.
It can't possibly, not when you can discuss that idea to the exclusion of all others to your heart's content right on this platform.
So your concern has nothing to do with the OP, you're just worried about it spreading to everything else. Got it, and thank you for your honesty.
I know nothing about the OP / mod, and will not vouch for him; however, I DO know a great deal about our admin and the fact that they're committed to there not being "reddit power mods." The concern you're expressing would be rooted out diligently. I can't say admin would act quickly on it, that depends on them seeing it first. Sometimes they've acted very quickly to user concerns, furnishing the solution in less than an hour. Other times they haven't seen it for days.
I'm confident that even if this one mod wanted to do what you fear, he couldn't.
Your comparing this to Reddit says that you know nothing about .win.
Here’s another fake account trying to present some nuanced FE take.
Such a fucking joke.
Go away forever. You have no business here. You are mentally defective and brainwashed by communists.
Guess what, that's what liberals say about us NoNewNormal people. As such we aren't given a chance to present our case on mainstream sites. Since FE is so ignorant (it is) then just debunk it, or ignore it.
They can't debunk it. That's why they are talking about censorship. They can't protect their feelings from the truth in any other way except removing the truth.
that's also the reason for all the name calling ... that's all they have
