This reminds me of Candida Auris.
It was allegedly spreading "across the world" in 2019, but it basically vanished from the news just before covid.
However, as of 2022, MSM picked it up again with the same "drug resistant superbug" verbiage they used previously.
Oddly enough, CA can cause loss of taste, loss of smell, and primarily targets old people in care homes/hospitals. It can also have a fairly high mortality rate, they say it's 30-60% in the US... But again, they're primarily 65+ or already sick. It can live on surfaces for weeks and effectively resists most fungal treatments.
