Modern people have no strength, courage, conviction, higher virtue, honor, real identity, purpose/meaning, heritage etc. They have nothing they would fight for - or more importantly build towards.

I am not referring specifically to any religion, only that certain religions, or denominations, have defined canon. Because Taoism doesn't, any later commentary can have as almost much authoritative weight as the original. Or depending on how someone is introduced to the practice of Taoism, great experiential influence.
(And the Dead Sea Scrolls, maybe you don't know this, confirmed the translations from the Septuagint and thus Jerome's Latin Vulgate, but that's another story.)
Maybe you don’t know, but the DSS contain the book of Enoch, which is only included in the Ethiopian Orthodox Canon.
I guess they were right and everyone else was wrong huh? That’s how canons work right? Lmfao
Ah, so you've moved the goalposts. You need to flow like water on that, and have no mortal spot, and nothing can harm you.
Since there is no authority to decide what is, or isn't canon, then you can add or leave books as you desire as an individual believer in Taoism. The Bible was set in the 300s by the only authority on it at the time. Later, Protestants removed 7 books because they didn't like what the implications were theologically. Further, you have most of them ignoring the stuff about sodomy, so they may as well drop those as well.
Thus in Christianity today, you have the same issue as Taoism. You can take or leave writings as you desire, and call anything canon or not.
So you think it’s a problem in taoism because there “isn’t a canon” (there is, for the 5th time, it’s called “the Tao te Ching”. Full stop.)
And you also think it’s a problem in Christianity, even with their (various) canon(s).
So what the fuck is your point even? You frankly don’t have one which is why I might seem annoyed by your comments lmao
There is no canon in Taoism, because there is no authority to say what is, and isn't Taoism.
You can say it's the Tao te Ching and "full stop" as often as you like, but you're yelling at clouds old man. Reality doesn't change because you want it to change. Taoism ought to inform you of that if nothing else.
Wrong.
Taoism = Tao Te Ching
A single book.
If I said “taoism is about monkeys with unicorn horns”, that doesn’t mean anything and only a fucking retard would say “well I guess the lack of a canon and official body makes THAT TRUE”
Seems like a lot of on Taoism by Taoists over there on Amazon. Talk to them about it, not me.

Oy vey, I guess Dan Brown novels tell the UNFILTERED TRUTH about Christianity huh?!?
You’re the one advancing the retarded fucking notion, not the people selling books on Amazon lol
Relax. Not very Taoist of you to get so worked up about so many people writing Taoist philosophy books with just as much authority of what is, and isn't, Taoism as you.
