An unknown species of human apparently mastered obsidian, something it had been thought only occurred in the Stone Age.

Handaxes like that only from different materials have been around since 1.6 million years ago. They are literally the oldest known hand tools made by hominids.

They were certainly not made by people like us. Homo Sapiens made much more advanced tools.
