1953 drug introduced by CIBA as tranquilizer, they later ditch it (((reasons)))
1954 Nazi-founded Gruenthal picks up the drug
1955 expanded use (as Contergan) begins - allowing rx for anxiety, morning sickness,etc
1961 pulled due to safety concerns / adverse effects
1968 criminal trials begin
1970 (December) Trial ends finding "no guilt"
FWIW -- appears that US FDA still had first generation foundational employees back then who prevented the drug from (legally) being marketed to US.
