Oh wait, no one wants to give up his communist welfare. Guess we already lost.
You are of course correct. However, the feature of the Digital ID is that it will centralise in one digital entity all data points relevant to one's life. This will not just be a proof of identity, but also a passport, a health card, a driving license, your tax documents etc.
And to top it all this will be incorporated in an Internet connected device that you MUST carry with you at all times and will enable command and control.
This is not the case with a paper (yes, they still exist outise the US) or plastic identity card. Neither the requirement to carry with you an Internet connected mobile device at all times.
Their tool to end all tools is an internet connected mobil device. Their justification is the digital ID
