In my view, and the view of our ancestors, the planets are actually planets. It is earth which isn’t.
Planets are stars which move differently than the other stars (“wandering stars”). Earth is terra firma, and not a star (aka light in the sky).
The rodenberrian “planet” is an invention of fiction majorly popularized through television.
