I remember this paper, by that Chinese whistleblowing scientist. They did gene sequence analysis and compared it to bat genes showing that the origin of the spike protein bonding site was unlikely to be naturally evolved, suggesting gain of function as the origin.

I tried explaining this to family in Oct 2020...it went over their heads and they laughed at me because I said "cleavage" and all they could think about was boobs.
