There has been a noticable interest in having humanity take a couple of steps back while our overlords take a couple of steps forward at our expense. Notice there haven't been any new, cool architectural marvels? My theory is that they are all underground. If we could only imagine, right?
The politicians loot so much od the public treasury there's nothing to show for it. trillions of dollars each year in government spending and the government is more preoccupied trying to put boots on the neck of small businesses than build anything requiring great ingenuity. Government bureaucrats are very unskilled and have bad judgement. Procurements are poorly conducted and corrupt. Self dealing kickbacks nepotism. They wouldnt have built the hoover dam if they could have looted the money instead.
