There are some good painters also, but yeah, "art lies in the eyes of the beholder" is really dumb and sounds excuse-y or dismissive. Next ask that person what they enjoy about "art" like this and then have a seat. Some wild shit will be named that seems more like trustafarian semantics. Been there lots. Having people fru fru-ize YOUR art is really fun though because since you made it, you can say they are pretentious and incorrect.
