Orbital mechanics. The Moon is slowly spiraling away from the Earth, slowing its rotation in the process. That’s why we add leap seconds every once in a while.
Yep. These things happen. The E+M+S system can be looked at as a 3-body problem for simplification, but you have to factor everything in when you’re getting atomic scale measurements.
