Yes, but a drone can not take you anywhere. A small plane is a good btfo option.
A family member who did some flying of small planes told me that local airport won't charge you to land (they get federal funds to offset those cost) but if for any reason you need to come to a complete stop for any length of time you have to tie down. Those tie downs are not cheap, add that to fuel hanger space maintenance and paperwork it's not cheap anymore.
She said that they became less common as they needed a long airstrip and I think telephone poles or electric lines started going uo everywhere.
Grass landing strips are still common.its just most farms never needed one and never had one
