I always take strange stories like this as a lesson that the world around us--right next to us in fact--is far, far different than we ever conceive. That is, when you try to imagine the reasonable sequence of events in this gentleman's life that led up waiting for Gilbert--as if the same things might somehow have happened to you--it's simply impossible.
