It's a weird phenomenon that's not unique to here, as you say. The r/Missing411 sub was dedicated to investigating missing people in national parks, and skeptical of the role the parks service plays in it. It's now modded by people employed by the parks service who gatekeep what people say about them and bag/mock the guy who started it. It's bizarre, but has been "their" modus operandi for milennia: overtake and subvert from the inside- like true parasites.
Yeah really.
I've been a long time subscriber to missing411, and that's a weird group.
Furthermore, I was in the sub PastSaturnsRings since its start, and was there when candleman there started losing it.
I had a long PM with that dude one time, and he thinks Saturn is God. He's utterly wrong of course. I really love how he couldn't answer simple questions like why Jupiter is far more important in the set-up and order of our solar system and is a much, much larger planet. And why someone would worship a planet or planet deity or whatever when there's innumerable planets and stars in the sky.
But anywho, the lengths that they go through to try and cover all their bases is pretty hilarious.
There's a level of insecurity there that is kinda unfathomable.
