When I was a kid, in that era when we opened a box of corn muffin mix, we were always prepared to see a weevil in it. When we made muffins we kind of knew in the back of our mind we might be eating weevil eggs too. These days there still might be eggs in it but we can be sure they are dead, because so much food is now sterilized by a radioactivity station along the production line. It doesn't leave the food radioactive but it zaps any insects. Uses cobalt-60 rods and there are X-ray zappers too. I wouldn't be surprised if some illegals end up childless too, if ya get mah drift.
As you probably know, the FDA sets an allowable top level of insect parts in cereals and other foods. Throughout history, people have been unavoidably eating small number of bugs, and diners at New York restaurants can assume some MDR of cockroaches.
