They told people they would be saved from sure death or their act would save others from sure death.

The majority fell prey to the marketing of the good news of the sacrifice being already made so there would never again be need for sacrifice as bad news.

Once they believed that, then they were open to believe anything.

It is the greatest deception ever, even the elect have been fooled.
