Holy shit this is frightening. What year was this book written? All I found was one similar title from 2018, but clearly this is old (the faded pages).
I like that you always read old books and post these kinds of things. What are your thoughts on the Ingersoll Lockwood books: The Last President and Baron Trumps Marvellous Underground Journey? I bought both of them and I read the last president fully, and I honest to God came away from that book thinking "buy as much gold as you fucking can". I don't know what think about these things, but after learning about Trump's uncle being the person responsible for determining what had historic or scientific value, among Nikola Tesla's belongings, and knowing that Tesla was deeply interested in time travel, these books, and their relationship to modern times, give me chills more than any other hard-to-explain thing in modern history.
1893 and 1839 i think. for about six months iv been grabbing every book i find thats from the 1800s and before. (it gets murky with ones from the 1600s though cus of the old style english)
the books are so much more interesting, you feel it in the writening that when these guys were sitting down to write a book, it was serious shit. not like today when anyone can get published
its funny you mention the parallels between the past and present. Iv got a few books that mention the great plaques of 1333 and 1666 and claim they could have been elaborate continent wide poising covered up as plaque sickness.
Interesting (re: poisoning). The parallels of many past situations, with today, are honestly scary to me, because it shows you that these people operate in a way so intelligently as to be unstoppable (hundreds of years later and still playing the same game, etc.).
What are your thoughts on the Ingersol Lockwood stuff I mentioned though.

Ergot poisoning was also fairly prevalent, with the poor eating rye spoiled with fungus.
Some have speculated this is where we get the idea of werewolves from. People tripping out on an LSD-like compound.
