Trump was never supposed to win in 2016. The pushed him on the rubes in the GOP with a shit ton of free media in 2016 because they were sure he was unelectable. Ted Cruz was rightfully pissed. It was to crown a glorious Hillary win, she having stolen a rigged nomination from Sanders.

They believed their own polls, and didn't ramp up the cheating machine. They stopped in the middle of the night in 2016 looking for votes, but there were no boxes of pre-made mail in ballots to run through the scanners.
