Justin Beiber was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome and has had to cancel his shows because half his face isn't working and he's obviously got some ataxia too, impaired speech. His blinking is asynchronous which looks derpy.

First of all, I want to say I'm not cheering or dancing on his grave or anything by posting this speculation. I am not a fan of Justin Beiber, but I also have no reason to wish him anything other than a fast recovery.
Shingles is no joke, my dudes. I have had shingles, also on my face, on my temple and on my upper and lower eyelids and its incredibly painful and takes clearly over a month to recover (post herpetic neuralgia and/or trigeminal neuralgia and/or herpetic opthalmia). Luckily, I was able to care for it much better than a millionaire (knowledge > power), and recovered very quickly. I may have discovered a novel treatment for it which I'll say in the comments should you be interested.
Ramsay Hunt syndrome is from shingles affecting the facial nerve near the ear, and it's basically an infection and nerve damage to the ear and face.
Shingles is caused by chickenpox which we all have, but it's an HERV an human endogenous retrovirus that stays with you your whole life. Like HIV or Genital Herpes, it writes itself into your DNA and its there forever.
It manifests when your immune system is weak. Shingles doesn't usually attack people until they are over 50 yrs old. Beiber is much younger than that. Why is he getting it, and why now?
I think he got the vaccine and I think the vaccine is weakening his immune system. And i think also that is why there is an epidemic of shingles in the news; because people have developed VAIDS and are starting to have HERVs manifest. Also I think that reexposure to shingles re-activates shingles. My stepmother got shingles just before I did. She's had the jabs, and I haven't.
I would love to hear about your treatment. I'm 60 now and those types of issues do arise. I avoid doctors except for heavy trauma (like falling off a roof 25 years ago).
I treated myself this time. I am with you about being anti-doctor
Didn't get acyclovir. I would have, if I had known it was shingles sooner.
I thought it was poison oak / poison ivy. I had been doing yard work in an area that did have poison ivy and oak, but I was well cover up from head to toe with a hat, goggles and bandana over my face. Possible that exposure to this stuff 'set off the shingles' but sure enough that is what it was, and by the time I realized it was what it was it was already 72 hours past the window of time where acyclovir would have been effective, so I just had to ride it out
It was transferring pain from my trigeminal nerve to the optic nerve, and I was having 'stabbing' type pain in my eye for about a week, and Ice compresses helped for a while, and then hot compresses
I eventually made a strong tea out of yarrow and a rare herb i grow as a nerve tonic from autoimmune types of pains called wood betony (Stachys officianalis)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betonica_officinalis
I can attest that this herb is superior for neuralgia, the pain went away immediately, and stayed away for about an hour and started to creep back. The yarrow was good for the pain also, but was more effective for bringing down swelling (anti-inflammatory). Both have some activity against herpes zoster / hsv-3 / VZV. These are synonymous and I'm giving them so you can use them as search terms on nih.gov, where i found initially they had some effect
Also curcumin / turmeric, resveratrol and quercetin have activity against VZV... also all the polyphenols generally
I'll copypasta my reesearch
Awesome, thank you very much. I grow a lot of different plants and wood betony is about to make the list.
Glad to help. I had to grow wood betony from seed from an obscure herb seed store online. I've never seen it for example in any nurseries, even big ones.
lambs ear is a very close relative to wood betony, and so is crosnes (edible tubers), pronounced 'crones' / 'crow-ns' (like crohns disease)
OH, here is where I got them from. Strictly medicinal seeds, formerly horizon herbs.
