Michael Tracey - Fun fact. By March 1964, after nine years of involvement in Vietnam, the US had committed approximately $27 billion (today's dollars) in military and economic "aid" By May 2022, the US had committed $54 billion to Ukraine in less than three months (twitter.com)

Off topic, but a fun fact about the Vietnam War and in honor of Memorial Day, I submit a tiny correction to Tracey's tweet: the first casualty of that war was September 26, 1945. You read that right, not even two months after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

There are a couple of kickers, one being that he was an Army officer but worked for the OSS (CIA). The other should hit you like a kick to our collective balls:

Just before Dewey left for Saigon airport to head home, he filed his last report on Vietnam. In a hauntingly ominous observation, he wrote: 'Cochinchina (South Vietnam) is burning; the French and British are finished here, and we ought to clear out of Southeast Asia.'

Just think what might NOT have been. I'm sure chickens were sacrificed to Moloch that he didn't make it home. Anyway, the full story is told here:
